Iowa Enough Already!!

I'm sick of winter.. This winter which pretty much only officially started a month ago has been horrible. I'm tired of central Iowa weather. I'm tired of the horrible drivers. I'm just generally tired of dealing with winter in this state. The only thing that has kept me here is family but I'm seriously considering getting the heck out of this state. So maybe one day I will bid farewell to all this winter nonsense.. but for now I guess I'm stuck here hating every minute of it

I'll Never Understand

Des Moines, Oh Des Moines how thy confuse me. I just need to get something off my chest here. I have lived in this town for well coming up on two years now and every day I am reminded that most of the population of this town are horrible drivers. I mean NO ONE uses their blinker, most people don't even start to get into the turn lane until they are almost at the intersection (which means they will inevitably be sticking out into your lane if the light is red), oh and to top it all off, NO ONE seems to either 1) know how to park or 2) back out of a parking space. I mean you either see everyone parking where they can pull through while leaving their ass end in the other space or if you do find someone that parked without pulling through, you never want to park next to them as they are most likely so crooked that you will fear for your cars paint job the whole time you are shopping. I haven't really been anywhere in this town yet that has parallel parking and to tell you the truth, I am kinda scared to. Who knows what kinds of craziness abounds in those parking spaces.

The other thing I have grown accustomed to in this town is leaving at least three car lengths between myself and the car in front of me. I mean if you don't you risk serious damage to your car as some moron is going to sqeeze in there no matter if you leave space or not. Once everyone gets moving they all drive like madmen but god forbid you actually try to get them moving once the light turns green, OMG Des Moines GREEN MEANS GO, it doesn't mean "hey lets just sit at the light and maybe one day we will give it some gas and get moving.

The greater population of this area is also very rude in general. I can never have a good experience while shopping here. People are always getting in the way, barging in front of you or heck even running into you while walking. Well either them or their kids is running into you since the children aren't kept in check at stores either. Heck just yesterday while at Sam's Club the wife and I were heading to a checkout that was empty and the checker was waving us over. This lady proceeds to cut in front of us asking the checker if she is open and when she finds out she is, she just stands there waiting for her shopping companion to get over there with the cart. The wife normally takes everything in stride but she told me after we went outside that if the lane right next to that one hadn't emptied just at that time she would have went off. Now that would have been hilarious to see as she normally is the one telling me to calm down when the crazies get to me.

Well I think that is plenty of ranting for now so until next time,

Let the bodies hit the floor

ok, I have no idea why I chose that title. This post is mainly just to test that the twitterfeed I set up is working properly. That way if i ever do decide to regularly update this blog my legions of followers on twitter can read it. Ok, yeah a bit much I know but that's the way it goes I guess. This test has now concluded, you may resume your normal activities.

Twitter... well what can I say about twitter. Twitter launched on July 15 2006, one day before my 30th birthday. I cannot remember the exact date that I created my account but I know it was within a year of launch. I created said account added maybe 1 or 2 updates and then it lay dormant for a year or so. I am actually surprised the account didn't deactivate. Recently though I have for one reason or another, felt the need to revive my twitter account and actually start tweeting as they call it. Coincidentally that is what most likely lead to me reviving this blog and actually putting something here that I know won't be read. Since my twitter revival, I have amassed some followers (small following by twitter standards), put up some tweets, and generally had an OK time. I also participated in LeWar, twitters first war between LeVar Burton and Michael Ian Black. Good times were had all around. I am still learning and most of my @replies directed to people I follow go unanswered but all in good time I suppose. Until then, if you want to see my random thoughts; my twitter username is StormShadow. Some notable twitterites to follow are wilw - Wil Wheaton, neilhimself - Neil Gaiman, ThatKevinSmith -Kevin Smith, rainnwilson - Rainn Wilson (the Office), kevinpollak - Kevin Pollak, michaelianblack - Michael Ian Black, levarburton - LeVar Burton (Star Trek, Reading Rainbow), BrentSpiner - Brent Spiner. There are many more celebrities on twitter that you could follow and many more things you could do. I am sure you are bound to find something to do in your own little corner of the Twitterverse.

Welcome to the new world order

Why are we here? I ask myself that most every day. And you know what, if I ever come up with an answer that makes sense I may just go insane. I don't even really like blogs. Why am I doing this then? Figures someone would ask that question. To tell you the truth, I haven't a clue. I was bored and figured meh what the hell. I'll give it a try. I just hope no one actually wants to read this thing because then I may actually have to start giving half a damn and I really don't want that to happen :) Ok well so much for the first post. Maybe there will be more, maybe not. Guess you will just have to wait and see.
